Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who celebrated his 76th birthday yesterday, has confirmed his intention to run in the 2026 General Election. In an exclusive interview conducted during The People’s Alliance (PA) assembly in Lautoka, Rabuka announced that he would submit his name for consideration.
“Yes, I am going to contest,” he stated, adding that his candidacy would depend on the party’s selection panel. “I should make myself available as long as the party will have me, and the party selection panel will decide on behalf of the party.”
Reflecting on the challenges he has faced as Prime Minister and party leader over the past two years, he emphasized that the PA does not operate as a single-party government.
“Firstly, it is important for the party to understand that we are not a single-party government. They need to recognize that the party manifesto is subject to agreements with the other two parties, the National Federation Party and the Social Democratic Liberal Party,” he explained.
Rabuka noted that one of his significant achievements has been maintaining unity within the coalition. “It is a great achievement because it is difficult to keep a coalition together,” he remarked.
