Rabuka Ready for 2026 Election: What’s Next?

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who celebrated his 76th birthday yesterday, has announced his intention to run in the 2026 General Election. In an exclusive interview during The People’s Alliance (PA) assembly in Lautoka, he confirmed that he would submit his name for selection.

“Yes, I am going to contest,” Rabuka stated. He noted that while he would make himself available, the final decision lies with the party’s selection panel.

Reflecting on the challenges he has faced as Prime Minister and party leader over the past two years, Rabuka emphasized that PA operates as a coalition and not a single-party government.

“First of all, it’s important for our party to understand that we are not a single-party government, and our manifesto is subject to agreements with the other two parties—the National Federation Party and the Social Democratic Liberal Party,” he explained.

He highlighted the difficulty of balancing the demands of coalition governance, stating that it has been a challenge to communicate this understanding within the party. Despite these challenges, Rabuka expressed pride in one key accomplishment: maintaining unity within the coalition.

“It is a significant achievement because keeping a coalition together is no easy task,” he remarked.
