Rabuka Promises Careful Review of Complaints Against Top Officials

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has promised the public that any formal complaints will be carefully evaluated before any decisions are made. In response to concerns raised about recent images involving FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku, and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, Rabuka emphasized that these officials were appointed by the appropriate authorities. He acknowledged that issues have surfaced during their tenures and stated that it will be up to the relevant authorities to determine their future.

The Prime Minister indicated that any decisions regarding suspension or action against the individuals involved will be made by the Constitutional Officers’ Commission (COC) and other pertinent groups. He clarified that the Commission is responsible for suspensions as it concerns individuals appointed by the COC and others appointed by different authorities.

Rabuka stated that the government must wait for these bodies to make their determinations before proceeding with any suspensions. After a decision is reached, the appropriate investigative agencies will assess the circumstances and suggest further actions, which could include dismissal or reinstatement.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that all proper protocols are followed in each case.
