The leader of the People’s Alliance Party and current Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is remaining silent on his intentions for the 2026 elections amid increasing speculation. While he has yet to confirm whether he will seek re-election, he did not dismiss the notion when asked about his plans for the upcoming election cycle.
Concerns have been raised regarding the party’s deviation from its original manifesto, with critics claiming it has been compromised due to the Coalition Government. Rabuka acknowledged the issue and stated that he is still weighing his options regarding his political future.
“It will depend on my availability,” he remarked, highlighting the procedural requirements he would need to navigate, including going through the selection panel process to be a candidate again.
Despite the uncertainty, Rabuka recognizes the desire among party supporters for him to spearhead their campaign in the next election. “Many have raised these issues in various media, expressing concerns about what has been done and what has not,” he noted.
He pointed out that while they have not accomplished everything they aimed for, partly due to the nature of their alliance, a recent meeting proved to be productive. Rabuka also indicated that the party’s manifesto is subject to change, inviting supporters to share their ideas during party meetings.
“As our party’s name suggests, it is the People’s Alliance. The people come together, and we are aligned,” he asserted, underscoring the collaboration among members to pursue a common goal of leading the nation in accordance with the people’s will and a vision for improvement.
