The Ra district teams are focused on competing in the Vodafone Kaji competition, with an emphasis on team development rather than solely winning. Under 13 coach Varayame Ratu highlighted that while a win would be a bonus, the primary aim of their participation is to gain experience and cultivate the skills of their young players. The teams, which represent areas from Drauniivi to Bureiwai and Bucalevu, had only a week of training prior to the competition, and faced challenges, including competing without proper footwear.

Despite these hurdles, the coach expressed optimism, stating that their goal is to improve the players’ skills as they compete. Ratu noted the success of the Fijiana teams (both 7s and 15s) and emphasized that supporting girls’ teams will foster further development, especially as players transition to high school rugby. The teams are dedicated to their training regimen, holding three practices each day, accompanied by morning devotion sessions.

Coach Ratu encouraged the local community in Suva to show their support for the teams at the HFC Bank Stadium, underscoring the importance of community involvement in sports.

This commitment to youth development, despite the odds, showcases a hopeful outlook for the future of rugby in the Ra district, as these young athletes are provided with opportunities to grow both on and off the field.

In summary, Ra district teams are participating in the Vodafone Kaji competition with a focus on skill development and community support, despite limited training and resources. Their journey reflects a positive effort towards nurturing the next generation of rugby talents.
