The Ra district teams are gearing up for the Vodafone Kaji competition, with the Under 13 coach Varayame Ratu emphasizing that participating in the event will be a significant bonus for the young athletes. He highlighted the focus on gaining exposure and developing the players’ skills rather than solely pursuing victory.
The teams, which consist of four squads split between the Under 13 and Under 14 categories, have traveled from various locations including Drauniivi, Bureiwai, and Bucalevu, even after facing challenges such as training without proper shoes. Their determination to compete at the national level is commendable.
Coach Ratu shared that their main objective is to enhance the boys’ skills and foster talent. He noted the inspiring performances of the Fijiana teams in rugby, emphasizing that the success of these teams motivates the development of girls’ rugby, which will be beneficial for future high school competitions.
With three daily training sessions, including morning devotions, the team is working hard to prepare. Coach Ratu has also extended an invitation to the local community in Suva, encouraging them to come out and support the teams at the HFC Bank Stadium.
This initiative reflects a strong commitment to youth development in rugby, and the community’s support could further empower these young athletes as they pursue their dreams in the sport.
In summary, the Ra district teams are prioritizing skill development and community support as they participate in the Vodafone Kaji competition, demonstrating resilience and dedication in the face of challenges.
