The Vodafone Kaji competition presents a significant opportunity for the young players from the Ra district, as emphasized by Under 13 coach Varayame Ratu. His primary focus for the team is not solely on victory, but rather on gaining valuable experience and nurturing the skills of their young athletes.

The team faced a challenge by training together for only a week prior to the commencement of the games at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Remarkably, despite lacking training shoes, this obstacle did not hinder their determination to compete at the national level. The talent pool for the teams spans various locations, including Drauniivi, Bureiwai, and Bucalevu, showcasing a wide representation.

Ratu expressed his commitment to skill development, stating, “We came here not to win but to develop young boys’ skills; we’ll try our best to win some of the games before we reach the main day.” He also highlighted the successes of Fijiana teams and the importance of establishing a girls’ team to enhance overall development in preparation for high school rugby.

The coaching staff has been proactive, conducting three training sessions daily, beginning each day with a morning devotion. Ratu called upon the Ra community in Suva to lend their support, encouraging attendance at the stadium.

This commitment to youth development in sports exemplifies the potential for growth not just in rugby but also in the personal skills and confidence of these young athletes. By prioritizing learning and teamwork over immediate success, they are laying a foundation for future achievements both on and off the field.

In summary, the Ra district teams are set on a journey of growth and skill-building through their participation in the Vodafone Kaji competition, showcasing resilience and commitment, which inspires hope for the future of rugby in their community.
