QVSOB Rugby: Unity and Fundamentals Key to Success

QVSOB Rugby: Building Resilience From the Ground Up

The Queen Victoria School Old Boys (QVSOB) rugby team is preparing for their season with the Suva Rugby Union by prioritizing the mastery of fundamental skills. Assistant coach and former Flying Fijian, Kini Murimurivalu, highlighted the necessity of team unity and a commitment to basic strategies during their training sessions to ensure success on the field.

In their season opener against the defending champions, Police Blue, QVSOB narrowly faced defeat, losing 21-22 at Buckhurst Park. However, Murimurivalu remains positive, explaining that triumphs are born from collaborative efforts and the diligent application of skills learned during practice. He emphasized the significance of teamwork, stating, “A win can only come if there is unity within the team and if they apply the little things we teach them during training.”

The team has faced challenges, including low participation rates due to the lack of compensation for their efforts. Despite this setback, Murimurivalu believes in the team’s adaptability and underscores the importance of clearly understanding each player’s role during the game.

He further motivated his players by conveying, “Nothing is difficult; when you know what is expected of you on the field, the easier things become.” This motivational approach aims to enhance the players’ dedication and discipline as they progress in the season.

QVSOB’s commitment to foundational skills and teamwork not only prepares them for upcoming matches but also cultivates a culture of resilience and perseverance, emblematic of the rugby community. By instilling these values, the team is building a foundation that could lead to future achievements on the field.
