QVS Triumphs in Deans Trophy with Seruvakula’s Expert Guidance

Former Flying Fijians forwards coach Senirusi Seruvakula played a crucial role in Queen Victoria School’s 27-13 victory over Nasinu Secondary School in the Vodafone Deans Trophy final. This information was shared by QVS Under-18 head coach Josaia Waiwalu on Saturday night.

Waiwalu described Seruvakula as their technical coach and praised his expertise, stating, “He is the best coach in the Pacific at the moment. We are learning a lot from him as he is also an alumnus of the school. We are grateful to have him in the team.”

Earlier this year, Seruvakula was shortlisted for the head coach position of the Flying Fijians. He previously led the Fijian Drua to victory in the Australia National Rugby Championship in 2018 and coached the Fiji women’s rugby team during the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2022, where they achieved a notable win against South Africa.

Last year, he served as the forwards coach for the Flying Fijians at the Rugby World Cup, where the team reached the quarterfinals.

Waiwalu mentioned that they were well-prepared for the grand final against a strong opponent, focusing on maintaining possession, which proved effective. He reflected on the team’s journey, emphasizing the bond formed through shared experiences and the importance of faith throughout the season.

“This win is significant for QVS as it marks the 25th time we have claimed the Deans Trophy,” said Waiwalu, adding that the trophy has been traditionally held by schools from Tailevu.

In a separate note, QVS first-five eight and captain Anare Tabakaucoro expressed his ambition to advance his rugby career with the Fijian Drua. “I want to play professionally and remain in Fiji to be close to my mother,” he stated.

Tabakaucoro played a key role in the final by maintaining his composure and controlling the pace of the game. He shared that this being his final year at school motivated him to give back to the institution and dedicate the victory to his parents, acknowledging their inspirational influence, especially for those who were raised in single-parent households.
