Recently, the Year 12 students at Queen Victoria School (QVS) participated in an enriching educational tour to the United States, a venture organized by the parents of Bau House and the QVS Old Boys based in the USA. This significant journey was made possible by the devoted fundraising efforts of parents throughout the year.

The primary goal of the tour was to expose students to diverse global perspectives while encouraging personal and academic growth. Ulai Butukoro, head of the delegation, highlighted the importance of the trip, mentioning that it had been nearly 45 years since QVS last visited the USA in the 1970s.

“This trip was designed to give students a glimpse of the wider world and the opportunities it holds,” Mr. Butukoro explained. He emphasized that the experience aims to inspire students to dream big and consider studying in the United States.

Planning for the trip required considerable effort, as parents had to raise specific funds for each child. Fortunately, a series of organized fundraising activities enabled them to reach their financial goals.

Mr. Butukoro expressed deep gratitude for the support received from the QVS Old Boys in the USA, who took care of the students and parents during their three-week stay.

During their visit, the students toured the State Capitol of California, where they engaged with Senators, who stressed the importance of education and serving one’s country. Additionally, they visited Fijian communities and participated in church services, which offered them a sense of connection and enrichment.

They also explored several renowned universities, where they gained valuable insights on pursuing their academic interests in the United States.

In summary, Mr. Butukoro deemed the trip a resounding success, stating that it broadened the students’ perspectives and motivated them to consider greater possibilities beyond their immediate surroundings.

This journey not only provided academic insights but also fostered a sense of community and belonging among the students, leaving them inspired and hopeful about their futures. It stands as a reminder of the positive impact such experiences can have on young minds, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with ambition.
