Queen Contestant’s Mission: Fighting Social Ills in Fiji

Accessible and affordable mental health resources are crucial in addressing domestic violence and drug abuse in Fiji. Esiteri Salele, a 23-year-old from Somosomo, Taveuni, is motivated by the social issues in her community to participate as a queen contestant in the 2024 Nasinu Town Festival. Sponsored by Pacific Fishing Company Pte Ltd (PAFCO), she is one of seven contestants competing for the crown during the week-long event.

Salele emphasizes the importance of enhancing mental health support and encouraging spiritual growth to improve overall well-being, reduce stress, and promote healthier family dynamics. She believes that providing counseling, education, and support services can help families face challenges and develop resilience together.

In addition to mental health advocacy, Salele is focusing on promoting family values as a means to combat issues such as unemployment, school dropouts, drug abuse, cyberbullying, and domestic violence within families and communities. The festival is scheduled to take place from August 17 to August 24 at the Valelevu grounds.
