Punjas has announced the construction of a $55 million Distribution Centre in Lautoka, which is anticipated to be the largest warehouse in the Pacific, boasting a storage capacity for 24,000 pallets. This state-of-the-art facility is part of Punjas’ strategy to enhance its supply chain operations across Fiji and the wider Pacific region, meeting the increasing demand for its food and non-food products.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Professor Biman Prasad, recently toured the ongoing construction site to observe the company’s operational framework and strategic goals. He described the new center as a significant achievement for both Punjas and the Pacific region, emphasizing its potential to improve regional supply chain efficiency and generate new economic prospects.
Founded in 1935, Punjas is preparing to celebrate its 90th anniversary next year and has a workforce of over 1,500 employees. During the visit, the management team emphasized their company’s important role not only in the local economy but also in expanding its international footprint with an extensive portfolio of Fijian-made products.
Moreover, Punjas continues to engage in corporate social responsibility initiatives, as demonstrated by its recent $2.25 million investment in the expansion of the Punjas Medical Centre, which aims to provide essential healthcare services to the community. The company also extended the Punjas Children’s Park in Lautoka, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The visit concluded with a meeting between Professor Prasad and Punjas Senior Directors Mr. Kanti Punja and Mr. Jagjiwan Punja, during which they discussed the company’s future vision and its vital role in fostering economic growth. As Punjas approaches its milestone anniversary, it remains a crucial contributor to Fiji’s economic progress and community enhancement.
This expansion is a promising development for the region, offering hope for job creation and improved services. It underscores Punjas’ dedication not only to business growth but also to contributing positively to the communities it serves.
