The Public Service Commission (PSC) has rescinded its nomination of Pita Wise for the position of Head of Mission in Japan. PSC chairperson Luke Rokovada announced the decision last night, citing the authority of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.

Mr. Wise had previously resigned from his role as permanent secretary on September 25, citing personal reasons. Prime Minister Rabuka later confirmed that his office had received a sexual harassment allegation against Mr. Wise, which was subsequently referred to the PSC.

Mr. Wise was expected to succeed Filimone Waqabaca, who is being considered for the position of head of the Fiji Development Bank. Last Friday, the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement urged the Coalition Government and Prime Minister Rabuka to withdraw Mr. Wise’s nomination for Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan.

Mr. Wise served as permanent secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister starting in January and has held various positions in previous administrations.
