The case involving suspended Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde was mentioned four days ago, but a hearing date has yet to be established. Mr. Pryde’s attorney was informed by a tribunal that is reviewing his case that it could not provide a timeline for when further affidavits would be finalized and served.
The attorney also brought to the tribunal’s attention that the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has not responded to communications regarding the unilateral suspension of Mr. Pryde’s salary. He stated that Mr. Pryde is unable to adequately defend himself without his salary, indicating that the stoppage of pay is severely impacting his ability to mount a defense.
Mr. Pryde was suspended from his position as DPP in April 2023 due to allegations of misconduct, following an interaction with then attorney general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum at an official event, which was interpreted as inappropriate. A year after the initial suspension, the JSC introduced an additional charge against Mr. Pryde regarding overpaid superannuation, a claim that he has denied.
