Pryde’s Prosecution Saga: Hearing Date Still Undecided!

The case involving suspended Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde was mentioned four days ago, but a hearing date has yet to be established. This week, Mr. Pryde’s lawyer was informed by a tribunal assigned to his case that it could not indicate when additional affidavits would be completed and served.

In response, the lawyer noted to the tribunal that the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) had not responded to communications regarding the unilateral suspension of Mr. Pryde’s salary. He emphasized Mr. Pryde’s inability to adequately defend himself without his salary, highlighting that the halt in pay is significantly hindering his client’s defense.

Mr. Pryde was suspended from his role as DPP in April 2023 due to allegations of misconduct after being seen in conversation with the then attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, at an official event. This interaction was viewed as inappropriate.

Additionally, Mr. Pryde reported that a year following his suspension, the JSC introduced a further allegation concerning overpaid superannuation, which he has refuted.
