Pryde’s Legal Battle: Uncertainty Lingers in DPP Suspension Case

The case involving the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, was mentioned four days ago, but a hearing date has yet to be established. This week, Mr. Pryde’s attorney was informed by a tribunal overseeing the matter that it could not provide a timeline for the completion and service of additional affidavits.

In turn, the lawyer indicated to the tribunal that the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) had not responded to communications regarding Mr. Pryde’s salary suspension. The attorney stressed that the cessation of salary payments was severely hindering Mr. Pryde’s ability to defend himself.

In April 2023, Mr. Pryde was suspended from his position as DPP due to allegations of misbehavior after he was spotted conversing with the then attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, at an official event, an action interpreted as misconduct.

Following his suspension, the JSC added another charge against Mr. Pryde concerning overpaid superannuation, which he has refuted.
