The Tribunal Report concerning allegations of misconduct against Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions in Fiji, is set to be released after careful review by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
A three-member Tribunal was formed under Section 112 of the Constitution to investigate the allegations against Pryde. The Tribunal was chaired by Justice Anare Tuilevuka, with Justice Chaitanya Lakshman and Justice Samuela Qica serving as members. They completed their inquiry and submitted their findings to the President on December 23.
According to a statement from the President’s Office, His Excellency needs to thoroughly examine the report, consult relevant officials, and gather necessary advice before making it public. The process has experienced delays due to some officials being on holiday during the Christmas and New Year period. However, it is expected to resume once they return to work in the new year.
The President recognizes the importance of making the report public, as mandated by section 112(6) of the Constitution, and intends to do so once he has properly considered its contents. In a letter to the President’s office, Pryde has requested to receive a copy of the report and has argued that, if the findings indicate insufficient evidence of misconduct, his suspension should be lifted immediately, allowing for his reinstatement as Director of Public Prosecutions.
This situation highlights the importance of accountability within public service and the need for transparency, as Fiji seeks to uphold the principles of justice and governance. As the new year approaches, there is hope that the process will be completed swiftly, allowing for clarity and resolution in this matter.
Summary: The Tribunal Report investigating allegations against Christopher Pryde will be made public after President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu reviews it, following some delays due to holiday schedules. Pryde awaits the report and argues for his reinstatement if the findings are not in favor of misconduct.
