The proposal to build a community health center for the residents of Namosi is underway. The initiative is aimed at closing the existing gap in local healthcare services. According to Laisenia Tui, the Public Administrator of the province, deliberations are being conducted for constructing the health center, set to include a birthing unit and a mortuary.
Mr. Tui confirmed that a 50 acres land at Dada, the government station, has been allocated for the purpose. The healthcare facility will be beneficial to inhabitants of the four districts around Dada, saving them from the inconvenient travel to Namuamua Health Centre which involves a boat ride on rivers.
Currently, locals are faced with either traveling to Namuamua or commuting down to Navua Hospital. As per Mr. Tui, both alternatives are costly due to the travel expenses. This reflects the government’s commitment to enhance healthcare accessibility by addressing the service gaps.
Mr. Tui also confirmed that efforts are ongoing for the reconstruction of Naqarawai Health Station, which has been idle for almost two years after a fire incident in 2022.
