Primary School Students Caught in Shocking Drug Incident at Athletics Meet

Four primary school students have been referred to law enforcement after reportedly smoking marijuana during an athletics meet in Suva yesterday.

According to Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu, the students were discovered with smoking paraphernalia inside a washroom and were initially reported to security officials at the event before the police were notified.

ACP Driu stated that the students’ parents were alerted and counseling was provided regarding the implications of their children’s actions. He emphasized the importance of ongoing discussions between parents and guardians about the harmful effects of illicit drugs.

Without continuous guidance, ACP Driu warned that children may seek advice from irresponsible sources, which could lead them down a harmful path.

In another incident, a raid by the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in a settlement in Lami yesterday resulted in the arrest of two men who were allegedly found with nearly 100 branches of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The men are currently in custody, and the substances have been sent for testing. Additionally, police apprehended several individuals at various locations, including Nausori market, Lautoka, Sigatoka, Labasa bus stand, and Vunivau, Labasa for possession of marijuana. All seized items are undergoing analysis.
