Four primary school students have been referred to the police after being allegedly caught smoking marijuana during an athletics event in Suva yesterday.
Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu reported that the students were discovered with smoking devices inside a washroom and were handed over to security personnel at the venue before the police were notified.
ACP Driu also mentioned that the students’ parents were informed and received counseling regarding the implications of their children’s actions. He urged parents and guardians to engage in ongoing discussions with their children about the harmful effects of illegal drugs.
He emphasized that without regular guidance, children might seek counsel from sources that do not prioritize their best interests, potentially leading them down a harmful path.
Additionally, a raid by the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in a settlement in Lami yesterday led to the arrest of two men found in possession of nearly 100 branches of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. The suspects were taken into custody, and the substances have been sent for testing.
Police also apprehended other individuals allegedly caught with marijuana at various locations, including the Nausori market, Lautoka, Sigatoka, Labasa bus stand, and in Vunivau, Labasa. All confiscated materials have been submitted for analysis.
