Four primary school students have been referred to the police after being accused of smoking marijuana during an athletics meet in Suva yesterday. Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu reported that the students were discovered with smoking devices in a washroom and were subsequently referred to security personnel at the event before the police were notified.
ACP Driu stated that the parents of the students have been informed and counseled regarding the implications of their children’s actions. He emphasized the importance of parents and guardians engaging in ongoing discussions with their children about the severe consequences of using illegal drugs.
He also warned that without regular guidance, children may seek advice from unreliable sources that do not prioritize their well-being, potentially steering them towards negative life choices.
In a separate incident, a raid by the Fiji Detector Dog Unit in a settlement in Lami led to the arrest of two men who were reportedly found in possession of nearly 100 branches of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. They have been taken into custody, and the seized substances are undergoing analysis.
Additionally, police arrested several individuals for alleged possession of marijuana at various locations including the Nausori market, Lautoka, Sigatoka, Labasa bus stand, and Vunivau in Labasa. All seized substances in these cases have also been sent for analysis.
