President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is anticipated to be re-elected for a second term at the end of this month. The Parliamentary Business Committee has scheduled a meeting for Parliament on October 31 at 11 a.m. to appoint the President. Sources indicate that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is expected to nominate Ratu Wiliame for the position.

Initially, Parliament was set to nominate and appoint a President on October 3, as it was listed as the fourth item on the agenda for that sitting. However, the process was delayed after Mr. Rabuka revealed that there were potential disagreements surrounding the presidential nomination. He subsequently requested the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, to withdraw the agenda item, mentioning some unease with his nomination. The Opposition has not disclosed their plans regarding a candidate.
