President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is anticipated to be re-elected for a second term by the end of this month. The Parliamentary Business Committee has scheduled a session for Parliament on October 31 at 11 a.m. to appoint a President.
Sources indicate that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has nominated Ratu Wiliame for the position. Previously, on October 3, Parliament was set to hold a nomination and appointment for the President; however, this agenda was postponed. Mr. Rabuka announced a potential disagreement regarding the presidential nomination, prompting him to ask the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, to withdraw the agenda item related to the presidential nomination due to some concerns over the nomination process.
The Opposition has not disclosed their candidate yet.
