President Urges Action Against Rising Drug Crisis in Naitasiri

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has called on Naitasiri’s paramount chief, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, to take proactive measures to safeguard his community from the escalating illicit drug crisis. During the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting held yesterday at Tamavua Village in Suva, he voiced his worries regarding the rising drug use across the nation.

“It is crucial that we all collaborate for the improvement of the province. The vanua must work alongside the youth and the community to tackle the widespread social issues facing our society,” Ratu Wiliame stated.

He expressed his deep concern about the harmful impact of drugs on the youth, stressing the need to protect both current and future generations. Ratu Wiliame emphasized the importance of unity between the vanua and the church in safeguarding children, and he called for a reinforcement of cultural values within families, encouraging children to appreciate their elders.

Furthermore, he urged young people who have dropped out of school to consider attending technical schools, which could help them address social challenges and contribute to community development. “We must not blame others. It is our responsibility to confront this issue,” he said.

Ratu Wiliame also pointed out the necessity for a thorough village profile initiative, which would enable the government to provide tailored assistance to the people of Naitasiri. He encouraged the community to combat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by embracing healthier eating habits, noting that 80 percent of deaths in Fiji are attributed to NCDs.

“We must reflect on the lifestyles of our ancestors and ensure we consume locally grown food,” he concluded.
