The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has urged residents in Suva and Nausori to begin storing water in preparation for a planned water supply shutdown this weekend due to maintenance activities.

According to a notification posted on social media, the shutdown will take place from Friday, October 4, 2024, to Sunday, October 6, 2024, resulting in temporary water disruptions. WAF explained that ongoing assessments at the worksite uncovered additional risks that had to be addressed before proceeding to ensure the safety of workers. The authority noted that these risks could potentially cause delays if not managed promptly.

Customers are encouraged to adequately prepare by collecting enough water to last through the downtime. The maintenance work is essential for connecting a new 900mm gravity main from the Waitolu Reservoir to the existing 600mm rising main from the Waila Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to the Wainibuku Reservoir.

Affected areas include those relying on the Wainibuku Reservoir and other connected reservoirs such as Tovata, Nagatugatu, Tacirua, Coloisuva, Kalabu, Nasinu, and Flagstaff.

Some of the specific zones impacted are:

– Rewa Delta, Nakasi sub-divisions, and Vatuwaqa areas.
– Numerous roads and residential areas including Vishnu Deo Road, Kings Road, and various neighborhoods near Wainibuku, Kalabu, and Nasinu.

WAF has indicated that water carting services will be available to assist in any disruptions due to this maintenance work. Residents are thanked for their patience and understanding during this time. For inquiries, customers may contact WAF via phone at (679) 3346777 or through the mobile app and email.
