The Public Rental Board (PRB) plans to develop an additional 25 Lagilagi Housing units within the current financial year, with the potential to construct between 40 to 60 flats each year, contingent on budgetary support.
Timoci Naleba, the PRB general manager, revealed that 36 housing units are set to open in October, aimed at accommodating new tenants from a specific area in Jittu. This move will also allow PRB to utilize the vacated land for future projects.
Naleba explained that this strategy will be implemented across all housing developments planned for the coming years. “The tenants being placed here are from Jittu, and the selection will be area-specific to align with the next phase of our development,” he stated. “We need to clear one area first, and then we can proceed with construction, allowing the project to progress smoothly.”
Naleba expressed optimism that this year would see the addition of 25 new flats in Lagilagi. “This will enhance the number of individuals benefiting from the PRB’s affordable housing initiative during this final year. Once we achieve this, we aim to roll out at least 40 to 60 flats annually, depending on the Government’s budget allocation.”
He also noted confidence that the Government would be pleased with PRB’s achievements to date.
