A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line between Wailoa Power Station and Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva led to a significant power outage in the Central Division this afternoon.
Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, reported that a tree being cut in Waibau accidentally fell onto the high-voltage transmission line, interrupting the power supply from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the substation in Suva.
“Our teams are currently heading to clear the fallen tree from the transmission line before we can re-energize it,” Patel stated.
“While we are working to restore power to the affected areas using the Kinoya Power Station, it will take some time to fully restore service to the Central Division.”
He also urged the public to treat every power line as live and maintain a safe distance, as power lines may become electrified unexpectedly.
EFL expressed its apologies for the unplanned power disruption and any inconvenience experienced, noting that the situation was beyond their control and requesting understanding from their valued customers.
