A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line from the Wailoa Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva led to significant power supply disruptions in the Central Division this afternoon.

Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, stated that the incident occurred when someone was cutting a tree in Waibau, and it unintentionally fell onto the 132,000-volt transmission line. This caused an interruption in the power supply from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation.

“Our teams are en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line before it can be re-energized,” Patel explained. He added that while efforts are underway to restore power to the affected areas through the Kinoya Power Station, it will take time to fully rehabilitate the power supply across the Central Division.

Patel urged the public to treat all power lines as live and to keep a safe distance, as conditions can cause any power line to become electrified unexpectedly. He also apologized for the unanticipated power outage and any inconvenience it caused, emphasizing that it was beyond their control and requesting the cooperation and understanding of their valued customers.
