A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line connecting the Wailoa Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva led to significant power outages in the Central Division this afternoon.
Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, reported that they had received information regarding a tree being cut in Waibau, which accidentally fell onto the 132,000-volt transmission line. This incident interrupted the power supply from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the substation.
“Our teams are currently en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line, after which the line can be re-energized,” Patel stated.
“While we are working to restore power to the affected areas using the Kinoya Power Station, it will take some time to fully restore service to the Central Division.”
Patel also reminded the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain a safe distance, as any power line could become electrified unexpectedly.
EFL apologized for the unplanned disruption and any inconvenience caused, which was out of their control, and requested the understanding and cooperation of their valued customers.
