A fallen tree on the 132kV Transmission Line between the Wailoa Power Station and the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva resulted in significant power disruptions in the Central Division this afternoon.
Hasmukh Patel, the chief executive of Energy Fiji Limited, reported that the incident occurred when someone cut a tree in Waibau, which accidentally toppled onto the 132,000-volt transmission line, interrupting the power supply from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the substation in Suva.
“Our teams are currently heading to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line so that we can re-energize the system,” Patel stated.
“While our teams work to restore power to the affected areas using the Kinoya Power Station, it will take some time to fully restore power to the Central Division.”
Patel also urged the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain distance from them, as any line could potentially become electrified at any moment.
“EFL sincerely apologizes for this unexpected power disruption and the inconvenience it has caused, which is beyond our control. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of all our valued customers,” he said.
