Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has refuted claims that some members of the People’s Alliance Party are exploring the possibility of forming a new political party, describing the rumors as unfounded.
This statement follows a meeting of the Party on Tuesday, where members expressed their support for Party Leader and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Kamikamica emphasized that discussions about a new party pose a risk to the nation’s stability.
The People’s Alliance Party stated that the claims regarding a faction aiming to create a new political party are largely exaggerated. Kamikamica stated, “From all the discussions I’ve had, it’s clear that our Caucus members are united. If anyone wishes to leave and form a new party, I believe these rumors are untrue and without basis.”
He affirmed the party’s commitment to the country’s advancement and highlighted upcoming priorities, including a constitutional review and the establishment of a reconciliation commission, with a goal of growing the economy by 5%.
Kamikamica noted that the people of Fiji recently appointed a new government after 16 years of different leadership, warning that talk of a new political party could destabilize the nation. He urged anyone seeking to create another party to step away and emphasized the need for unity and focus in their current efforts.
“Stability is crucial for our country,” he remarked, underlining the importance of aligning behind Prime Minister Rabuka to counteract what he sees as mere rumors with no substantial foundation. He called on Fijians to prioritize political and economic stability and to avoid spreading unverified information.
