Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially relieved Lynda Tabuya from her position as Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. This decision came as a result of her recent conduct and failure to meet the expected standards for ministers. The move follows the emergence of a private video involving Tabuya.

The dismissal, which is in accordance with Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution, takes effect immediately. However, Tabuya will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.

In the interim, Assistant Women’s Minister Sashi Kiran has been appointed to take over the portfolio, pending her formal swearing-in by the President.

This change in leadership highlights the importance of upholding ethical standards within government positions and reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to maintaining integrity in public office. The appointment of a new minister signals a proactive approach to continuing the work in women’s and children’s advocacy in Fiji.

Overall, the swift action taken may serve as a reminder about the significance of accountability among public officials, while also providing an opportunity for fresh perspectives in the ministry’s efforts for social protection.
