Political Shake-Up: PM Rabuka to Meet Former FijiFirst and Opposition MPs

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced on Friday that he plans to meet with former FijiFirst and Opposition MPs this weekend.

These 26 former FijiFirst MPs currently do not have a party, following the deregistration of FijiFirst by the Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa.

Rabuka mentioned that Mosese Bulitavu, an Opposition MP, submitted a group audience request for the meeting, which is set for this weekend.

The agenda for the meeting will focus on the MPs’ political status and explore how they can effectively serve their parliamentary duties.

“We’re meeting this weekend. It’s just a group request from Mo (Mosese),” Rabuka said.

Earlier this week, Rabuka expressed an openness to various options and emphasized the Government’s commitment to open discussion as a means to collaborate on national issues.

“Bulitavu is my nephew; we’ve been communicating since our time together in SODELPA, and it continues now,” he added.

Meanwhile, former FijiFirst Opposition member Aliki Bia, now an Independent MP, has expressed his willingness to support The People’s Alliance/National Federation Party and SODELPA led-Coalition Government.

Speaking on Friday, Bia stated he is open to any responsibilities that may be offered by Rabuka. “I am open to any opportunity of responsibility offered by the Prime Minister,” Bia said.

“I’ve consulted with my family and my voters. If I am offered opportunities to help the Government govern the people of Fiji, I’ll be more than ready and willing to give my support.”

Bia joins other Opposition MPs, including Penioni Ravunawa, Viliame Naupoto, Ketan Lal, Mosese Bulitavu, and Semi Koroilavesau.
