Pramod Chand, the President of the National Federation Party, has strongly criticized former Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry, accusing him of holding a disreputable reputation and lacking political ethics. Chand’s comments follow remarks made by Chaudhry during the FLP Annual Delegates Conference in Nadi, where he characterized the Coalition Government leadership as self-serving and criticized it for neglecting essential issues affecting everyday citizens.
Chand condemned Chaudhry, suggesting that he is not only delusional but also rapidly losing touch with reality due to his continuous dissemination of falsehoods and misleading information. He emphasized that Chaudhry’s past, marked by a conviction for financial misconduct and a hefty fine for concealing substantial foreign funds, disqualifies him from addressing issues of integrity and accountability.
Furthermore, Chand accused Chaudhry of exploiting the plight of cane growers for personal gain while benefiting from policies that he had initiated during his tenure. He pointed to Chaudhry’s use of taxpayer funds for personal renovations during his brief time as Prime Minister and recalled his previous statement regarding the need for citizens to adapt to rising food prices.
Chand argued that the Coalition Government has been dedicated to rebuilding genuine democratic values, accountability, and good governance in the past 23 months, which he claims were undermined during the regime in which Chaudhry played a significant role.
Chand concluded by suggesting that Chaudhry should cease his delusions and face the reality of his political history. FijiLive has sought a response from Chaudhry.
