Spread the love

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere is poised to secure a second term in office by the end of the month. The Parliamentary Business Committee has confirmed that Parliament will convene on October 31 at 11 am for the appointment of a President.

Sources indicate that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has nominated Ratu Wiliame for the position. Initially, Parliament was set to nominate and appoint a President on October 3, with this matter listed as item number 4 on the agenda. However, the discussion was postponed following Mr. Rabuka’s revelation of possible divisions within the presidential nomination process.

Mr. Rabuka then requested the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, to withdraw item number 4, citing concerns over some “discomfort” regarding his nominee. Meanwhile, the Opposition has not disclosed their nomination plans.
