Police Urged to Step Up or Step Aside: A Demand for Accountability

Police in the Western Division have been urged to enhance their performance in response to the increasing demands of their role, or consider resigning. This directive came from the Divisional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa, during the fourth quarter divisional parade held for officers from Rakiraki to Sigatoka.

SSP Vaisewa emphasized the necessity for officers to treat every report with utmost seriousness and to offer proper guidance to those who come forward with complaints. He stated that the public expects police officers to be more responsive. He challenged officers to either meet these expectations or step aside if they find the demands unmanageable.

The commander highlighted the importance of adhering to established protocols to reduce complaints. “Every report must be taken seriously, and the complainant should receive appropriate advice to ensure their satisfaction,” SSP Vaisewa stated.

He also reaffirmed the zero-tolerance policy of Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew regarding officers involved in criminal activities, making it clear that any officer who misuses their uniform for personal gain through illegal activities will face serious consequences.
