Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has launched thorough investigations in response to two accidents involving police vehicles that occurred in Nadi and Laqere. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu emphasized that these incidents could undermine public trust in law enforcement, as they contravene the laws that police officers are sworn to uphold.
ACP Driu indicated that, while traffic investigations will be conducted, internal inquiries will also seek to address supervisory standards and the authorization processes related to the vehicles’ usage. This initiative aligns with Commissioner Tudravu’s vision to maintain discipline within the Fiji Police Force and to eliminate reckless behavior that misuses government assets.
He pointed out that police vehicles are vital for daily operations, and accidents leading to vehicles being out of commission can severely affect service delivery. In light of this, ACP Driu assured that both traffic authorities and Internal Affairs will meticulously scrutinize the situation to ensure adherence to established systems and processes governing vehicle deployment.
