Police Under Pressure: Step Up or Step Down?

Police officers in the Western Division have been advised to either meet the standards of policing or consider resigning. This directive was delivered by the head of the Western Division during the divisional parade marking the end of the fourth quarter, which included officers from Rakiraki to Sigatoka.

Divisional Police Commander Western, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa, emphasized the importance of treating every report with equal seriousness and offering appropriate guidance when necessary. He remarked that the public expects police officers to be more responsive and urged his team to either adapt to these demands or step aside.

SSP Vaisewa reminded his officers of the importance of addressing complaints effectively by adhering strictly to established processes and procedures. He stated, “No report should be treated lightly, and proper advice should be provided to ensure complainants leave feeling satisfied.”

Moreover, he reinforced the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew’s stance of zero tolerance towards officers engaged in criminal activities. SSP Vaisewa warned that any officer found exploiting their official position for personal gain through illegal avenues would face serious consequences.
