Four police officers face serious charges, including assault causing actual bodily harm, rape, and receiving bribes. According to police statements, these charges were filed last month.
In a broader context, the police reported a troubling rise in cases of serious assaults on officers, with 22 incidents recorded in October alone. However, on a more positive note, there was a decrease in reported cases of robbery and aggravated robbery during the same period. Unfortunately, this was countered by a significant increase in illicit drug cases, particularly in the Southern, Western, and Central Divisions.
In total, police documented 181 drug-related incidents, with 176 attributed to the unlawful possession of drugs and five related to unlawful cultivation. Among these, the majority of cases involved marijuana (160 cases), followed by methamphetamine (20 cases), and a single case of cocaine.
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew emphasized that the rise in drug-related cases is indicative of their ongoing efforts in the war on drugs, as they strive to disrupt and dismantle illicit networks with community assistance. He stated that the recent festive season operation, conducted in collaboration with community stakeholders, signals a proactive approach to ensuring safer neighborhoods.
This commitment to collaboration and community involvement offers hope that collective efforts can foster progress in addressing these challenges, ultimately leading to safer environments for all.
