Police Reassures Public: No Threat After Controversial Pardon

The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has assured the public of their safety following concerns about the recent release of George Speight, Shane Stevens, and several others via a Presidential pardon on Thursday. Driu emphasized that there is currently no threat to the public and that the situation in the country remains calm and normal.

“I want to assure the public to remain calm and that everything is normal,” Driu stated. He added that the release followed due process through the judicial system and the Mercy Commission, overseen by the president.

The police are actively monitoring the situation to ensure safety. Driu indicated that there have been no significant reports from the community, emphasizing that inquiries have primarily come from overseas media. He affirmed that there is no cause for alarm and reassured that everything is under control.

Driu cautioned the public against taking matters into their own hands, as some individuals might attempt to exploit the situation for their agendas. He also warned those spreading speculation about potential unrest on social media, asserting that law enforcement remains vigilant.

“If anyone plans to incite unrest, we will respond firmly,” Driu declared. He reiterated that the police are committed to maintaining public safety and will hold accountable anyone attempting to create fear among citizens.
