Police checkpoints and searches are continuing to yield significant results in the fight against illegal drug activities. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, announced that divisional task forces are establishing checkpoints based on intelligence and are performing searches on individuals displaying suspicious behavior.
Recently, a team from the Southern Division conducted a spot check at a shopping complex in Laucala Beach, where they discovered a man in his twenties in possession of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. In a separate incident in the Northern Division, a tip-off led to the arrest of a man suspected of selling and distributing illegal drugs, specifically marijuana. Authorities indicated that the suspect was expecting a new supply intended for sale that day.
A search of the suspect’s residence resulted in the recovery of several plastic bags containing dried leaves thought to be marijuana. The suspect is currently in police custody. ACP Driu also highlighted that other operations throughout the week have led to the seizure of additional illegal drugs, including methamphetamine.
He emphasized that the division’s strategy involves a highly proactive approach, with the aim of disrupting and dismantling the illegal drug trade. “Individuals found loitering or behaving suspiciously will be searched and asked to leave unless they have a valid reason for being in the area. We are committed to aggressively reducing the harm and supply of drugs,” ACP Driu stated.
