The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer accused of sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative. Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime Mesake Waqa reported that the officer is alleged to have committed these offenses on multiple occasions from 2019 to 2023 at various locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions. The case was investigated by the Sexual Offenses Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department, and once the investigation was concluded, independent legal advice was obtained from the ODPP. Following this guidance, the officer has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
