The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer for alleged sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the officer is accused of committing multiple sexual offenses against the victim from 2019 to 2023 at different locations within the Central and Eastern Divisions. The investigation was conducted by the Sexual Offenses Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department, which then sought independent legal advice from the DPP. Following this guidance, the accused faces nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement involving a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
