The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer for alleged sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa stated that the accused is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim multiple times between 2019 and 2023 at various locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions.
The case was investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Sexual Offenses Unit, and after the investigation was completed, independent legal advice was sought from the ODPP.
Following this advice, the accused has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
