The Director of Public Prosecutions has approved charges against a police officer accused of sexual assault and rape involving a minor relative. Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, reported that the incidents are alleged to have occurred multiple times between 2019 and 2023, at various locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions.
The case was investigated by the Sexual Offenses Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department. Following the completion of the investigation, independent legal advice was obtained from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. Based on this advice, the accused has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a minor aged between 13 and 16 years.
