Police Crackdown: Festive Season Targets Rising Drug Activity

Police are addressing the escalating issue of drug-related activities as the holiday season approaches. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu announced that a vigorous crackdown on both white drugs, such as methamphetamine, and green drugs, like marijuana, is being implemented across all five police divisions.

In Labasa, authorities apprehended two men in separate operations. A 55-year-old from Vunivau was taken into custody after law enforcement discovered zip lock bags containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Siberia was arrested for possessing a similar substance along with smoking paraphernalia.

In Raiwaqa, two students, aged 15 and 16, were found with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana during a search at their school. Meanwhile, in Ba, a 33-year-old man was arrested after police found several bullets of dried leaves also thought to be marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized that police operations are supported by community information and intelligence. He cautioned that both types of illicit drugs pose serious threats to society. “With young lives at stake, we cannot afford to be selective in our approach,” he stated, highlighting the need for ongoing cooperation with the public.
