Police Crackdown: Checkpoints Uncover Hidden Drugs!

Numerous snap checkpoints and searches across the nation have led to the confiscation of illegal drugs.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Livai Driu announced that divisional task forces established these checkpoints based on intelligence and tips received. He mentioned that individuals displaying suspicious behavior were subjected to thorough searches.

On Saturday afternoon, a team from the Southern Division conducted a spot check on a group of young people loitering at a shopping complex in Laucala Beach, where a man in his twenties was found in possession of dried leaves that are believed to be marijuana.

In a separate incident, a tip-off in the Northern Division resulted in the apprehension of a man suspected of selling and distributing marijuana. Following a search of his residence, several clear plastic bags containing dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, were confiscated. The man is currently being held in police custody.

ACP Driu indicated that additional raids and snap checks have led to the seizure of other illegal drugs, including methamphetamine and marijuana.

He emphasized that individuals found loitering or acting suspiciously would be searched, and those lacking valid reasons for their presence would be warned to leave. “We are committed to aggressively reducing the harm and supply of drugs,” he stated.
