Police Crackdown: Checkpoints Uncover Drug Haul

Multiple snap checkpoints and searches across the nation have led to the confiscation of illegal drugs. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu stated that divisional task forces established checkpoints based on gathered intelligence and tips.

He noted that searches were carried out on individuals who exhibited suspicious behavior. A team from the Southern Division conducted a spot check on Saturday afternoon at a shopping complex in Laucala Beach, where a young man in his twenties was found in possession of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

In a separate incident in the Northern Division, a tip-off resulted in the apprehension of a man alleged to be involved in the sale and distribution of marijuana. Following a search of his home, several clear plastic bags containing dried leaves, believed to be marijuana, were seized. The individual is currently in police custody.

ACP Driu also reported that additional raids and snap checks have led to the discovery of other illicit drugs, including methamphetamine and marijuana. He emphasized that individuals found loitering or acting suspiciously would be searched and advised to leave unless they have a valid reason for being in the area.

“Our focus will be to aggressively tackle the harm and supply of drugs,” he stated.
