Two 35-year-old men were arrested in Navua after police discovered dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine on them. These apprehensions occurred during police snap checks conducted across five divisions over the course of this month.
The first arrest happened during a snap operation led by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU). Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that a raid was carried out last Wednesday in Raiwai, near Suva City. During this operation, authorities confiscated white substances presumed to be methamphetamine, various items suspected to be stolen, and both foreign and local currencies. In addition to the two men, a woman was also arrested, and the materials seized are currently undergoing analysis.
Further inspections were carried out at a roadblock on Bagasau Road in Savusavu, where officers from the Tukavesi Police Station inspected a bus and uncovered a black bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. In a separate incident in the Western Division, two vehicle passengers were arrested on Monday night after police found additional dried leaves thought to be marijuana during a snap check at Sabeto Road, Nadi.
ACP Driu emphasized the success of these snap checks and affirmed the continuation of joint raids across the police divisions, signaling a strong commitment to combat drug-related offenses.
This concerted effort by the police is a positive step toward enhancing community safety and reducing drug-related crime. By maintaining vigilance and conducting regular checks, law enforcement is taking a proactive approach to protect the community and deter drug activity.
In summary, police operations in Fiji are yielding positive results against drug offenses, reflecting a robust response to enhancing public safety through ongoing vigilance and coordinated efforts.
