In Navua, police recently apprehended two men, both aged 35, after they were found in possession of dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine. This incident occurred as part of a series of police snap checks conducted across all five divisions this month.
The initial arrest took place during a targeted operation led by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), K9, and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit. Last Wednesday, officers executed a raid in Raiwai, near Suva City, where they recovered substances suspected to be methamphetamine, stolen items, and various currencies.
Alongside the two men, a woman was also arrested during this operation, with all seized items being submitted for further analysis.
In addition to this, police conducted snap checks at a roadblock on Bagasau Road in Savusavu, leading to the discovery of a black bag filled with dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Similarly, in the Western Division, two vehicle passengers were arrested on Monday night after police found branches of dried leaves at a checkpoint on Sabeto Road in Nadi.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, noted that these snap checks are proving effective, and the ongoing joint operations are set to continue throughout the police divisions.
This proactive policing approach demonstrates a commitment to tackling drug-related issues and improving community safety. The continued efforts by law enforcement suggest a hopeful reduction in drug-related crime in the future.
It is essential for communities to support these initiatives and engage in dialogues about drug prevention and awareness, paving the way for a safer environment for all.
